The Alestes Tetra (Brycinus longipinnis), also known as the African Longfin Tetra, is a somewhat uncommon species that can make a very active and visible for the larger home aquarium. It has an overall silver body, but develops very noticeable iridescent coloration as it matures. Males also develop a very elegant dorsal fin extensions with maturity. The Alestes Tetra grows to a larger size than many other well-known tetra species, but it is still very peaceful and is a wonderful fish for larger setups. A school of adults is sure to be the focal point of the aquarium!
